Authorizations serve several purposes in TotalABA. The first is to track therapy that the funding source has authorized for the student, including the authorized number of minutes/visits and the expiration date of the authorization. This is accomplished by selecting the authorization on appointments. It is possible that an authorization may be only for a date range or only for an authorized number of minutes/units.

The second purpose is to record an authorization number that will be sent across to the billing system after a session has been signed-off for billing and will be part of the resulting claim.
